How to Use Your Holo Card

Simple step-by-step guide to using your card on Oahu's transit

Using on TheBus

1. Board the Bus

Enter through the front door where the card reader is located.

2. Tap Your Card

Hold your Holo Card flat against the card reader for about 1 second. Look for the πŸ€™ (shaka) symbol or listen for the ukulele tone.

3. Take Your Seat

Once confirmed, find a seat. When exiting, you do NOT need to tap your card again on TheBus.

Using on Skyline Rail

1. Enter Station

Approach the fare gates at any Skyline station.

2. Tap to Enter

Tap your Holo Card on the reader at the fare gate. Gates will open when fare is accepted.

3. Board Train

Wait on the platform and board the train when it arrives.

4. Tap to Exit

Important: You MUST tap your card again when exiting through the fare gates at your destination station.

⚠️ Skyline Requirement:

A Holo Card is REQUIRED to ride Skyline. Cash is not accepted on the rail system.

Transfers & Multi-Ride Trips

Every fare includes 2.5 hours of unlimited transfers. This means:

  • Switch between buses as many times as needed
  • Transfer between TheBus and Skyline
  • No additional charge within the 2.5-hour window

Example: Tap at 9:00 AM, transfer unlimited until 11:30 AM for the same $3 fare.

  1. Tap your card when boarding the first vehicle
  2. When transferring to another bus/train, tap again
  3. If within 2.5 hours, you'll see "Transfer" and won't be charged
  4. After 2.5 hours, a new fare will be deducted

Don't keep your Holo Card in a wallet with other chip cards or credit cards. The reader might not read it properly.
